WHO OWNS AND IS BEHIND THE INTERNATIONAL 30 DAYS OF PRAYER?
The 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World project is an international prayer movement; it is not one organization. The movement is based on an idea that began circulating in 1992 when a group of international Christian leaders gathered for an unrelated conference in the Middle East.
The chair of that group (Floyd McClung, the international director of Youth With A Mission at the time) subsequently mobilized believers around the world to set time aside to pray for Muslims during the then upcoming month of Ramadan (Islam’s important month of religious observance) in early 1993.
Being a movement rather than a structured corporate entity allowed Christians in different parts of the world and from different denominations and ministries to freely embrace that idea and mobilize fellow believers to participate in learning about and praying for our world’s Muslim neighbors during a time of the year when many are more spiritually sensitive about their relationship with the creator.
Different unpaid volunteers have thankfully stepped forward over the years to help curate content for a prayer guide each year. Other unpaid volunteers around the world used the content to mobilize the Body of Christ in their local country, region, or language to participate in 30 days of prayer.
These local volunteers propelled the project into the global movement it has become by embracing the work involved in promoting participation and by publishing and distributing material for use during Ramadan. They were free to use as much of the curated content as they felt appropriate for their specific audience and augment it with other content as desired.
In light of all of this, it is to be expected that a variety of prayer material is now beginning to circulate during each Ramadan season, and is increasingly produced and made available by various ministries with similar passion — i.e., to see that Muslims will have opportunities to freely consider the claims of Christ.
30 DAYS OF PRAYER IN NORTH AMERICA
In the Summer of 1992, the chair of that aforementioned group that issued the call, mobilized Paul and Mary Filidis of then WorldChristian News to take on the new 30 Days project for North America. Starting with the very first 30 Days Muslim Prayer Focus, they have published a prayer guide booklet for each Ramadan period since then (2021 marks the publication of their 30th booklet produced in cooperation with David Garrison of Global Gates).
WorldChristian News has since morphed into World Christian News and Books LLC and has trademarked 30 Days of Prayer® for North America.
